For the twenty odd years that my friend Jim Terrien and I took Wednesdays off work and went skiing, he always pointed out a warning sign for truck drivers on the highway that one passes partway down the descent heading east to Denver. “Don’t be Fooled! You are not down yet” Jim would somehow manage to startle me each time we passed it by shouting the warning. Thus the phrase ‘don’t be fooled’ always reminds me of Jim.

I noticed recently that a short piece I wrote titled “Don’t be fooled by e-cigarettes” is posted on the “Five to Thrive” website and thought I would provide the link.
This website is the work of two friends/colleagues of mine, Karolyn Gazella and Lise Alschuler, the authors of a book by the same title (Five to Thrive and not “don’t be fooled”) that I often give to patients [when we haven’t run out]. Karolyn is the publisher of the Natural Medicine Journal, and has been kind enough to publish things I’ve written for several years now. Lise is a colleague and has recently and I think generously taken over the presidency of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, allowing me to be a mere Past-President, much to my pleasure. The website offers support and information to cancer survivors on life style, diet and a host of related things. Most patients tell me they find the site useful. There is also an accompanying daily ‘radioshow’ online covering interesting topics, often with interesting guests. How either of these two find the time in a day to pull this off remains a great mystery to me.
Their weekly schedule of radio broadcasts is here: http://fivetothriveplan.com/radio/weekly-schedule
Below is an announcement posted to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians website recently:
The OncANP was pleased to co-sponsor, with the AANP, a one day conference on survivorship. The conference was a smashing success with excellent presentations from start to finish. Attendees left with a deeper understanding of the unique health challenges of this population and with clinically specific tools to implement in their practices immediately. You can purchase the audio recording of the conference on theOncANP.org homepage (link is on the upper right).
A highlight of the OncANP survivorship pre-conference was the awarding of a plaque to Jacob Schor, ND, FABNO in recognition of his leadership of the OncANP for the past several years. Dr. Schor’s term as President ended in August of this year. He is succeeded by Lise Alschuler, ND, FABNO. Dr. Schor was recognized with the following:
In Honor of your Presidency of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Medicine
For your exemplary service as a physician, teacher, leader, writer and advocate;
For your dedicated leadership of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians,
your long-standing commitment to naturopathic medicine and naturopathic oncology, your scholarly contributions; and your example.
For being such a passionate voice in the advancement of naturopathic oncology ;
And for doing all of this with humor, intelligence, humility and
from a place of deep and abiding love for your colleagues, your profession and the patients we serve.
We thank you.

OncANP Conference on Cancer Survivorship
The Bilmore, 2014
Dr. Schor’s dedication of heart, time, and work to the OncANP has been a tremendous gift to the members of the organization, as well as the patients its members serve. The OncANP is deeply grateful that he has promised to remain an active OncANP member.
Finally, reserve the dates for the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians’ 4th annual conference on Feb. 13-15, 2015 in Phoenix AZ! This conference promises to be as clinically impactful and thought-provoking as past conferences. Many attendees have expressed that the OncANP conference is the one that they look forward to the most each year! Mark the dates and stay tuned for registration information.
